ENVIRONMENT – FRIENDLY ACTIVITY: GREEN CREDIT MEASURES ARE EXPANDED BY
CENTRAL GOVERNMENT
The central government has taken steps to ensure green credit benefits for any organization including farmers who do favourable deeds for the environment. The Ministry of Forests and Environment informed that the emphasis will be on water conservation and afforestation in the initial phase. The project will be implemented through a green credit registry and trading platform developed in collaboration with ICFRE (Indian Council of Forestry Research Education). It is used to facilitate the buying and selling of green credits.
Individuals and organizations will also be facilitated to register through a dedicated mobile app or website. A special agency will be entrusted with the inspection. After this, tradable credit certificates will be issued on the Green Credit platform. The Ministry of Environment has also announced measures for eco-marks promoting eco-friendly products.
By placing the Eco Mark on products, consumers can identify whether the product is environmentally friendly in terms of production design. Accreditation and labels are still being given to quality assured products in accordance with the country's Eco Mark standards. Another advantage is that misleading information about the products can be avoided. The Eco Mark scheme will be administered by the Central Pollution Control Board in partnership with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
