Kerala is taking a bold step toward the future by planning major reforms in land administration, including the use of blockchain technology to secure land transactions. The initiative, announced by Chief Minister, aims to eliminate fraud, prevent duplicate registrations, and make property dealings more transparent and reliable.

Blockchain for Secure Land Transactions

One of the most significant reforms under consideration is the adoption of blockchain technology in land registration. By using a tamper-proof digital ledger, the government aims to ensure that land records are secure, verifiable, and immune to manipulation. This move is expected to drastically reduce fake documents and multiple registrations of the same property, long-standing issues in land administration.

Outdated practices that forced people to make repeated office visits have been largely removed, marking a significant shift toward streamlined governance.

Procedures such as marriage registration have been simplified, and notices under the Special Marriage Act are now available online, promoting transparency and fairness.

Under the LIFE Mission housing scheme, the Registration Department has played a key role in ensuring fast and hassle-free document registration. The Chief Minister praised department employees for their dedication and efficiency. He also noted that the department’s strong performance in tax collection is evident from the steady annual increase in revenue.
