There should be no more than two storey building


The construction prohibition zone in the coastal control zone varies from zone to zone, but construction is restricted up to 500 meters from the high tide line. Buildings higher than 9 meters or more than two stories are not allowed here. The restriction of 500 meters from the high tide line is in addition to no construction being allowed up to 50 meters from the high tide line in Zone Three and 200 meters in Zone 3 B. CRZ is applicable only to local bodies that are adjacent to sea backwaters and rivers with high salinity.

As part of CRZ 2019, various zones and specialties are known:

CRZ 1A: Ecologically vulnerable area. It will include 12 areas including mangrove coral reefs.

CRZ 1B: The coast between the high tide line and the low tide line. Allowed: Eco- tourism, tree hut, public road, bridge, floating bridge, and fish processing unit, fish landing center, jetty and port. Restriction: No permanent constructions.

CRZ 2: Territorial cities include municipalities and panchayats of urban character. There is no non- development zone here. Allowed: Pre-1991 building and road can be new construction on land. If it is a building, the number should be there. If it is a road, it should be in the asset register of the local body. This does not apply to temporary structures that are part of tourism. Restriction: No building shall be more than 9 meters high at a distance of 500 meters from the high tide line.

CRZ 3A: According to 2011 census, the panchayat with population density more than 2161 per sq km and the non-development zone 50 m.

Allowed : Fisherman can renovate house in NDZ. Their needs may be hospital, school, ice plant etc. Temporary toilets, walkways, seats, changing rooms etc. can be part of tourism. Restriction : In NDZ anyone who is not a fisherman is not allowed to build or renovate a house. Resorts are not allowed. Buildings should not be more than 9 meters in height up to 500 meters.

CRZ 3B : Panchayat with population density more than 2161 per sq km as per 2011 census. NDZ 200 m. Allowed : All that is allowed in CRZ 3A in NDZ. Restriction : All controls in CRZ 3A

CRZ 4A : An area up to 12 nautical miles offshore from the low tide line. Special permission is required for dredging.

CRZ 4B : Water bodies such as lagoons and rivers with salinity above 5 ppt. The permission or restriction is determined on the basis of whether the body of water falls under the municipality or the panchayat.
