1900 CRORES CONSTRUCTION WORK FOR M C (MAIN CENTRAL) ROAD DEVELOPMENT GETS ADMINISTRATIVE

Works Department has been entrusted with the construction works of Rs. 1900
crores Loan granted for the development
of M C (Main Central) road into four lanes. The administration has been permitted Rs. 1500 crores
for widening Keshavadasapuram – Angamaly M C (Main Central) Road and Kollam – Chenkotta road
into four lanes, the renovation of 20 junctions and Rs. 200 crores for the
construction of 6 bypass in the state. These are the announced projects on
previous budget of state. The loan will be granted through KIIFB. The
government gave in-principle permission to start work on the 240.6 km M C (Main Central) road from
Kesavadasapuram to Angamaly and Kottayam to Angamali to avoid the problems of traffic
jams, narrow roads and bridges. The administrative approval was also given to
the proposal to conduct a study of this project and submit an urgent report. Rs
22 Lakhs have been allotted for the study. The State Public Works Department is
taking up the project of developing the old highway into four lanes after the National
highway authority starting the construction of Greenfield Highway parallel to
the current Kollam – Chenkotta lane. It was announced in the budget that 20
junctions of the most traffic jams in the state will be identified and a
detailed plan will be prepared and implemented. The allocation for this
financial year is Rs 200 crores.
